Thanks to rains in Karnataka, inflow up 7,000 cusecs at Hogenakkal

On Tuesday the inflow reached 7,000 cusecs at Hogenakkal due to good monsoon rains in catchment areas in Karnataka. At Biligundulu, the entry point of Cauvery into Tamil Nadu, an inflow of 6,500 cusecs was recorded in the morning and increased by another 500 cusecs in the evening. It was 5,500 cusecs on Monday.

The sharp rise in the inflow to Mettur dam is likely to go up further with the release of water from dams in Karnataka.

Water from Hogenakkal is expected to reach Mettur dam in a day or two. The inflow into the dam has already risen gradually from a meager 164 cusecs on July 14 to 3,600 cusecs on Monday and further to 3,820 cusecs on Tuesday at 8 am. The release from the dam has been maintained at 10,000 cusecs. Also the storage stands at 68.670 feet.

The dam, which maintained a storage level of more than 100 feet for over 300 days, began to dip following release of water for delta irrigation.
