Tamil University forms forum to highlight eco conservation

Thanjavur Tamil University on Friday has formed a forum, Friends of Environment, to educate the youngsters of the state on the importance of environment conservation.

Inaugurating the forum, the Vice Chancellor Balasubramanian said, the voluntary organization would ensure clean environment and would educate the youth on their social responsibility to conserve the environment, and would attempt to create awareness on the importance of being a role model to the society. He told the members of the forum to emerge as the role models by saving the environment. In witnessing each student as campaigners of clean environment, others would become aware of their responsibility, he said.


He said that the State has been reeling under acute drinking water shortage and so it was essential to educate the people on the economic use of water.


He also asked the members of the forum to frequently visit nearby locations including worshipping places, tourists’ spots and public gathering places to create awareness on saving the environment and its importance in the present age.


Later, the members cleaned the campus and planted saplings. Registrar Chinnappan and others accompanied the student members.
