Tamil Nadu’s corona testing highest pan India

Tamil Nadu has tested the highest number of COVID samples across the country with 8,27,980 having been tested till June 19. The State is followed by Maharashtra with 7,37,597 tests and Andhra Pradesh with 6,30,006.

With the Health Department intensifying testing of samples in Chennai, other districts with fewer cases including Coimbatore, Erode, Vellore, Theni, Chengalpattu, Dharmapuri and Madurai have also stepped up testing, resulting in a spike in cases.

The State average of total tests done per million has increased from 6,420 to 8,935 in two weeks. Chennai has tested 1,70,701 samples so far. Chengalpattu that tested 13,958 samples as on June 7, has tested 6,000 more samples in two weeks and tested 20,050 samples on Saturday.

The positivity rate for COVID-19 in Tamil Nadu has also doubled in the last one month. There were 10,000 cases a month ago when 3 lakh were tested and the positivity rate was 3.4 per cent. However, with increasing cases and testing of samples, the positivity rate has jumped to 6.91 percent.
