Swine flu claims life of 42-year-old Vellore man

After a lull, swine flu has resurfaced again in Tamil Nadu claiming the life of a 42-year-old man from Vaniyambadi in Vellore district.

Jamaluddin, 42, succumbed to flu without responding to the treatment at a private hospital in Erode district, on Saturday night. Police said, few days ago Jamaluddin, underwent a heart operation in the private hospital in Erode district and recently he developed a respiratory problem. 

“Two days ago, as he developed severe breathlessness, his family members again brought him to the same hospital, in Erode district for an examination. They believed he would have developed complications in the heart. A diagnosis of blood and urine samples revealed that Jamaluddin was affected by swine flu,” police said. 

Later, Jamaluddin was quarantined and treated in a special ward for swine flu. Despite treatment, his health condition deteriorated and died, on Saturday night. His body has been taken by family members to his native place in Vellore for final rites.   

S Soundammal, Deputy Director of Health Services, Erode district, said that as soon as Jamaluddin was diagnosed with swine flu, a communication was issued to the health department in Vellore district to take preventive measures in his neighbourhood.  “Preventive measures have also been taken at the hospital in Erode,” she added.
