“Following the spread of COVID-19, students of primary and high school covered under the nutritious meal scheme will be given 10 eggs per month from September along with the dry ration products,” said S Madhumathi, Secretary, Department of Social Welfare, in the GO.

As schools were closed and meals could not be provided to students there, the state provided dry ration products for students covered under the scheme from the month of May.

However, eggs which were provided under the nutritious meal scheme were not provided to students and so the state had passed orders to distribute eggs to students when they come to schools to collect educational materials and dry ration products.
