SI in hospital after taking rat poison dies in Thanjavur

The SI in Thanjavur, who consumed rat poison out of frustration, died on Monday. Dinesh Kumar (40), the SI serving in Ayyampettai police station in Thanjavur, residing at Melattur Abraham Street was found to be vomiting along the roadside in Papanasam on November 20.

His neighbours noticed it and took him to his house. However, his condition deteriorated and his wife Revathi who inquired with him, learnt that he had consumed rat poison. Soon after he was rushed to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital and was undergoing treatment there.

However, on Sunday night he succumbed to the poison. Initial investigation by the Papanasam police found that Dinesh Kumar was working at Alwarkurichi police station in Tirunelveli and a case was booked against him under SC/ST Act and the Human Rights Commission summoned him on November 20. He was frustrated by the summons then and this had let him to take this extreme step.
