The Avadi all-women police inspector Shobarani, who took the children for the medical test, said that it would take time for the results to come, which would then be communicated to the magistrate in a sealed cover. Police are investigating whether more students have been victims of sexual abuse in the home. Meanwhile, steps are also on to nab Babu Samuel, the warden of the orphanage who is on the run.

The incident came to light on Thursday after four girls of the orphanage complained of sexual abuse at the hands of maintenance staff and warden during a legal awareness programme for schoolchildren held in the presence of magistrates. The orphanage was raided, and trustees T Jacob and his wife Vimala Jacob, maintenance staff D Baskar of Ayanavaram, and R Muthu of Tirumullaivoyal were remanded.
