CHENNAI: Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) general secretary TTV Dhinakaran finally opened up about alliance choices on Saturday, saying that no pressure had been exerted on him to choose partners for the forthcoming Assembly elections, and asserted that the concerned parties would make an announcement at the appropriate time.
The AMMK chief buying time to announce his alliance call had a reflection on PM Modi's Chengalpattu public meeting as the BJP featured Dhinakaran's image on a promotional poster for while, before removing it later on.
TTV Dhinakaran speaking to reporters after paying floral tributes to the statue of AIADMK founder MGR on Anna Salai, Chennai, on the occasion of MGR's 109th birth anniversary.
Responding to questions about banners projecting the AMMK as part of the NDA and reports suggesting that he had met various leaders in Delhi, Dhinakaran clarified that his recent travel to Delhi was purely for personal reasons. "I go to many places for personal affairs. It is not that I travel to Delhi only for political purposes," he said.
He dismissed speculation about pressure tactics, stating, "No one has put any pressure on me regarding alliances". Dhinakaran reiterated his belief that no single party would be able to form a government with an absolute majority in the 2026 Assembly elections. "A coalition government will definitely be formed in Tamil Nadu. The party I align with will surely win, " he said. He added that whether he leads an alliance or joins one, the formal announcement would be made by the appropriate alliance head.
