CHENNAI: PMK founder Dr Ramadoss on Saturday asked the Tamil Nadu government to emulate Karnataka and increase the quantum of reservation to SC/STs to 22% in the State.

Welcoming the decision of Karnataka government to increase the quantum of reservation to SC and STs from 15 to 17% and three to seven per cent, respectively, Ramadoss said, “It is a very good social justice safeguarding initiative.”

Stating that he has been urging since the days of inception of Vanniyar Sangam in 1980 that reservation to scheduled castes should be increased to 22% in tune with their population in the state, the PMK founder, in a message posted on his Twitter handle, said that the continuous road roko was organised then also pressing for this demand.

Describing as ‘daring’ the decision of Karnataka to increase the overall volume of reservation in the state to 56% consequent upon the enhancement of reservation to SC/STs, Ramadoss said that the Tamil Nadu government should come forward to make such a courageous decision in the State too.
