TIRUCHY: A railway gatekeeper’s timely action saved a pedestrian who was carelessly crossing the track without noticing a passenger train approaching at Arasoor, Kollidam in Mayiladuthurai district on Monday (July 6) evening.

The CCTV footage of the rescue operation went viral on social media in the region on Tuesday, and the public lauded the alert gatekeeper.

Sources said Sandeep Sahar, a railway gatekeeper on duty at Arasoor railway gate, was preparing to wave a green flag for the Mayiladuthurai-Villupuram passenger train on Monday 4.35 pm, when he saw a man crossing the track without noticing the train approaching fast.

The alert, Sandeep Sahar, ran towards the man and pulled him out of the track in no time while the train passed.

“The pedestrian was under the influence of alcohol, and so he carelessly crossed the track even when the train was approaching,” railway police said and added that the identity of the person was yet to be known.
