Publicise Ayushman Bharat, appeals Guv

Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Monday asked politicians, MPs and MLAs to propagate Ayushman Bharat, the national health protection mission, as awareness on the scheme in the state was lacking.

He made this request after inaugurating speciality centres and additional buildings as part of an expansion plan of a private hospital here. The Governor said the UN and the WHO have emphasised on universal healthcare coverage, but statistics show access to healthcare varied across countries.

With a view to ensuring universal healthcare in India, the central government introduced Ayushman Bharat which covers the poor and the vulnerable groups with Rs 5 lakh per family per year, he said.

On the change in life-style and food habits over the years, the Governor said it had led to obesity and various diseases and noted that Mahatma Gandhi preferred chapathi over poori as the latter was ‘poison’ when eaten fried.
