According to the GO, the state is implementing the Price Support Scheme (PSS) of the Union government, whereby the procurement price of the coconut copra had been increased in the state.

The procurement price for coconut copra in 2018 was fixed at Rs 75.10 per kg, but the farmers were demanding the government to fix the procurement price at Rs 110 per kg as market price was soaring at Rs 90 to 95 per kg.

When Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami met Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently, he submitted a 20-point memorandum in which one of the demands was to increase the procurement price of coconut copra to Rs 110 per kg. Based on the demands, the procurement price was hiked by the Centre to Rs 95.21 per kg. By passing the GO, state government is now implementing the procurement price for copra in the state. “A remunerative and stable price environment for coconut farmers is important for increasing production,” read the GO.
