Pregnant woman dies as lorry hits 108 ambulance

A pregnant woman on her way to the Tiruvannamalai GMCH on a 108 vehicle was killed and 6 others were injured, after the ambulance in which they were travelling was hit by a lorry on Friday.

Police said that Priyanka (26), wife of Ramakrishnan of Athiyur near Villupuram, developed labour pain and was being taken to the Tiruvannamalai GMCH in a 108 ambulance. The vehicle was driven by Ganesan (29) of Villupuram and Ilango (28), was the EMT. Priyanka was accompanied by her in-laws Balakrishnan (55), his wife Anjalai (50) and two others. When the vehicle neared Vanapuram in Tiruvannamalai district it collided with a lorry resulting in all passengers being injured. Though All the injured were rushed to the Tiruvannamalai GMCH, Priyanka died on theway. Thachur police have registered a case and are investigating.
