Poultry farmers to stir on Jan 7 for wage raise

CHENNAI: The poultry farmer members of the Tamizhaga Vivasaayigal Paadhukaappu Sangam have planned to stage a protest in front of the Animal Husbandry Department directorate office at Nandanam, Chennai, on January if the State government does not raise the chicken rearing wage from Rs 6.50 per kg to Rs 20.

Their other demands include a wage of Rs 25 per kg for country chicken rearing, Rs 7 wage per quail, free electricity for broiler farms and a separate welfare board for poultry farmers. With the Assembly election coming up in three to four months, it is expected that a solution will be reached.
