Police martyrs remembered on Commemoration Day across the state

Police personnel, who martyred their lives on the line of duty, were remembered on the occasion of ‘Police Commemoration Day’ in Madurai and across the state on Wednesday.

Inspector General of Police (South Zone) S Murugan along with Commissioner of Police, Madurai City, Prem Anand Sinha and Madurai Superintendent of Police Sujit Kumar led police personnel in Madurai district in paying homage to the personnel who sacrificed their lives. Commemoration parade was held involving scores of police personnel at Armed Reserve Police grounds in Madurai. A total of 264 police personnel, who lost their lives at work from September 1, 2019 to August 31, 2020 across the country, were remembered on the occasion. As per directive of the Madurai City Commissioner of Police, the fellow policemen paid visit to the houses of victims and paid floral tributes to their portraits as a mark of respect. The Police Commemoration Day is observed on October 21 every year to pay respects to the 10 police personnel, who were killed by the Chinese troops near Ladakh on October 21 in 1959.
