Passengers seek more trains during busy festival months

With all festive season around the corner for the next three months, M Piramanayagam, secretary of the Association and DRUCC Member, Southern Railway, Madurai, on Tuesday requested the authorities to operate special trains between Thoothukudi and Chennai for special occasions

MADURAI: Thoothukudi District Passengers Welfare Association has sought to drive home the need for special trains from Chennai and vice versa, especially during festival season.

With all festive season around the corner for the next three months, M Piramanayagam, secretary of the Association and DRUCC Member, Southern Railway, Madurai, on Tuesday requested the authorities to operate special trains between Thoothukudi and Chennai for special occasions, including Navaratri, Deepavali, Christmas, New Year and Pongal, the festive season of 2023.

He also urged the need for special trains from Chennai to Tiruchendur ahead of the Shashti festival, which could be useful for devotees and would be of a source of considerable revenue for the railways. Passengers in Thoothukudi had no alternative but to rely on only overnight train from Chennai.
