One killed, three injured in accident

One person was killed and three others were injured in an accident at Kodaikanal in Dindigul on Sunday.

The accident happened near Government Hospital Junction on Kodaikanal main road when a van, which was parked, rolled back on a steep slope while unloading, sources said.


The deceased was identified as V Rajkumar (30) of Manjalar in Kodaikanal.


Preliminary inquiries revealed that the vehicle, loaded with seafood, was not properly parked. The parked vehicle was in neutral and there was no wheel chock to prevent it from rollingdown the slope.


Rajkumar, the owner and driver of the vehicle, noticed the vehicle moving and attempted to stop it.


However, the vehicle hit him on the chest and he died on the spot. S Chandrasekar (55), K Ochchi and M Arunkumar of Manjalar we also injured in the incident.


While Rajkumar’s body was taken to a Government Hospital for post-mortem examination, the injured were taken for treatment.


Based on a complaint lodged by Ochchi, the Kodaikanal police registered a case under Sections 279, 337 and 304 (A) of IPC, sources said.
