Officials seize Rs 1.6 lakh in cash

A static surveillance team seized Rs 1.6 lakh in cash along the state border near Pernambut on Thursday. This is the first instance of its kind after the elections.

The team, headed by special SI Jayakumar and assisted by woman police constable Ramabai, was checking vehicles at Badalapalli hill village along the Tamil Nadu border when they found a car carrying Rs,1, 67, 900 in cash.


On being questioned, the passengers said that the money belonged to one Arasi who runs a private school at Nagapattinam and that the money was the students’ fee.


They said that they were taking the cash to Bangarupet in Karnataka. But, as the passengers were unable to produce any documents to support their claims, the cash was handed over to Pernambut tahsildar Shenbagavalli.
