Nine tonnes of banned tobacco worth Rs 50 lakh seized at Mathigiri check post

The Mathigiri police in Krishnagiri district on Monday seized nine tonnes of banned tobacco products worth Rs 50 lakh smuggled from Bengaluru to Chennai through Hosur in a lorry.

COIMBATORE: A police team involved in a vehicle inspection intercepted the lorry at a check post near Mathigiri and a check revealed the smuggling of the contraband. Police arrested Dharmalingam, from Thoothukudi and Manikandan from Srivaikundam. An inquiry is underway to unravel the network of smugglers.
