NIA teams probe murder of Ramalingam

The National Investigating Agency (NIA) has taken over the investigation of the murder of the PMK cadre V Ramalingam (48) of Thoondil Vinayagampettai at Tirubhuvanam near Kumbakonam in Thanjavur.

It is said, as the case was transferred last week and a team of police personnel of the NIA from Chennai, including Senthil, Inspector, have been camping at Tiruvidaimarudur and conducting inquiries with the local police, the complainants and the background of the arrested persons in relation to the case. Soon after the transfer of case, the NIA has also registered an FIR in this regard.


Meanwhile, an additional four-member team from Kochi led by the NIA ASP Sowhath Ali arrived in Thanjavur and commenced their investigations from the temporary office at Tiruvidaimarudur Inspectors quarters.


On Wednesday, the team conducted probe on the background of the 11 arrested persons. Earlier, they conducted an inquiry with the deceased Ramalingam’s son.


It may be noted that Ramalingam, former PMK town secretary of Tirubhuvanam was hacked to death by a gang on February 5.
