CHENNAI: Now, there’ll be more transparency in the functioning of schools across Tamil Nadu as the Educational Management Information System (EMIS), an online platform, connecting institutions, teachers, students, and parents have been upgraded.

Accordingly, several options including the leave application module for teachers and students have been changed. Additionally, daily staff profile activities must be uploaded every day. It will be implemented from Monday.

A senior official from the School Education Department told DT Next that 16 new modules will be introduced in the EMIS to get clarity among stakeholders.

“The new modules will not only give transparency in the functioning of schools, but it’d also prevent irregularities with regard to regular classes,” he said. “There’d be a separate application included in the EMIS to prevent proxy attendance.”

Pointing out that the EMIS would contain monthly inventory about the schools, he said, “Leave applications have been modified so that there’d be a proper reason for teachers and non-teaching staff to avail it.”

The EMIS data will contain all health aspects of students, which would be sent to the concerned health officials. “EMIS can verify the student’s details without Aadhaar and contact number. It’d also have profiles of both teaching and non-teaching staff. Now, the concerned staff can upload students’ academic scores from monthly tests till annual exams,” he stated.

Events and tours will be updated in the EMIS as per norms. “Library information including the number of reading books and periodicals available can be seen in the new system. Technical infrastructure such as the availability of computer systems, laptops and lab facilities will be included in the EMIS.”

In the future, details of scholarship beneficiaries will be available in the EMIS besides having available vacant teacher post in every school.
