Mordhana dam opened for irrigation

State Labour Minister Nilofer Kafeel and Vellore Collector SA Raman jointly opened the Mordhana dam near Gudiyattam on Saturday.

The water release will benefit a total of 6534 acres in 30 villages through Kaundanya River and the left and right bank canals, officials said. While 100 cft (cubic feet) water would flow through the Kaundanya River, 70 cft water each was released through the two canals, they added. The water release will continue till June 5. The water is also expected to fill up 11 irrigation tanks in the Gudiyattam, Pernambur and Katpadi taluks, officials added. It may be recalled that the dam has a full tank level (FTL) of 37.72 feet and 255.378 mcft (million cubic feet) capacity.
