Minister says noon-meal egg supply not hit

Denying the allegations of Leader of Opposition MK Stalin that providing eggs in noon meals and anganwadi schemes had been stopped, Social Welfare Minister V Saroja on Tuesday said there is no link between procurement of eggs for the schemes and the rise in prices in the market.

The contractors had been supplying eggs without any break, she asserted and accused Stalin of politicising the issue. As per government rules, the contractors should quote a stable price for one year and the price quoted should be taken into account and not the fluctuating market prices, the Minister noted. 

The egg price quoted by the producers would be compared with that of the National Egg Coordination Committee. The government had fixed the egg price at Rs 4.34 and procuring them from August 2017, she said and added that the price would remain fixed till July 2018.
