Mayiladuthurai to get cyclone protection centre

TIRUCHY: The proposed cyclone protection centre at the estimated cost of Rs 7.92 crore in Mayiladuthurai would be beneficial for people, ensuring the protection of their cattle at times of disaster, said the minister Siva V Meyyanathan on Wednesday.

Laying the foundation of the cyclone protection centre at Sirkazhi in Mayiladuthurai, minister Meyyanathan said the cyclone protection centre construction would be completed within six months and the building would have all basic amenities including drinking water, toilet facilities and a vast kitchen.

“During the disaster times, the people can stay in the building and their cattle can also be housed at the separately allocated space,” said the minister.
