Man prays, gets job, kills self to fulfil vow to God

Investigating the case of a body found on the track near Putheri railway overbridge in the wee hours of Friday, the police were shocked to find a suicide note in the victim’s shirt pocket that claimed he was sacrificing his life to fulfil a vow he had taken before God - that he would give his life in return for a good job.

The victim, identified as S Naveen (32) of Nagercoil, was an engineering graduate who was struggling for long to get a good job. Frustrated over his repeated failures, he finally promised to God that he would sacrifice his life if his elusive wish for a good job was fulfilled.

Soon afterwards, he got placed as an assistant manager of a nationalised bank in Mumbai. Naveen travelled from Mumbai to Thiruvananthapuram by flight, a day ahead of his extreme decision.

After landing at the airport, he travelled down to the rail track near Putheri and jumped in front of a speeding train, sources said. The body, which had several injuries, was cleared by the Nagercoil Railway police.

The body was taken to Kanniyakumari Government Medical College Hospital in Asaripallam for post mortem examination. Based on a complaint, the police have filed a case and are investigating.
