Man gets death penalty for sexually assaulting daughter

The accused was promptly arrested, and a detailed investigation was carried out.

MADURAI: The Pocso Special Court in Tirunelveli awarded a death sentence to a man for sexually assaulting his 14-year-old daughter.

According to the prosecution, the incident occurred in February 2025. Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s mother at Nanguneri All Women Police, a case was registered under the relevant provisions of the Pocso Act. The accused was promptly arrested, and a detailed investigation was carried out.

Upon completion of the investigation, a final report was filed before the court. The trial was conducted before Justice K Suresh Kumar at the POCSO Special Court.

The accused was pronounced guilty, imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 and sentenced to the death penalty. He was also directed to pay Rs 10 lakh in compensation to the survivor.

Tirunelveli SP N Silambarasan lauded the efforts of the investigating officers, AWPS personnel, supervisory officers, and the prosecution team for securing this exemplary conviction.

With this verdict, the Tirunelveli District Police has secured convictions against 29 accused in 28 Pocso cases during 2025.

These include a death sentence, a 25-year rigorous imprisonment, four life sentences, four 20-year sentences (including two history-sheeters), and one 16-year sentence awarded to a history-sheeter. This case was the second instance of awarding the death penalty in a Pocso case in 2025.
