L-G Bedi inspects eco-tourism projects in Pondy

The Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi on Sunday visited the ongoing tourism projects which are being fully funded by the Government of India under centrally sponsored schemes as part of the 255th morning trip.

According to Raj Nivas, Bedi visited some unexplored areas of Puducherry, which is near the lagoon behind the art and craft village. The team enjoyed a boat ride over the lagoon, they also took a walk along the ancient walls built by the Romans going back to 2200 years. The department of tourism was developing the area as an experiment in eco-tourism which includes boating along the mangroves combined with the ancient Arikamedu Trek.


The development of this tourism site shall provide a unique holistic experience in archaeology, and boat ride along the mangroves, and a visit to the art and craft village, the release said.


Earlier, the team visited the ongoing tourism promotion project at Old Distilleries, the construction of Cultural Complex & Art Digital Museum and Convention Centre at the Old Port.
