Police said Matthew (28), working as a coolie at Kaliyar Kandigai near Arakkonam, and his wife Jemina (26) admitted their infant son Joshua to the CMC after he was diagnosed with a block in his intestine.

The child was discharged in the evening but died shortly after leaving the hospital. Alleging negligence on part of the hospital authorities leading to the death of his son, Matthew along with his relatives squatted on the road in front of the hospital.

After receiving information about the sit-in protest, Vellore north police rushed to the spot. They pacified the agitators, who agreed to disperse after receiving assurance that action would be taken.
