Prakash Natarajan (30), an engineer from Sankaranmalaipatti at Karuppur, near Krishnarayapuram in Karur, went to Thailand for work in January 2017 after completing his engineering studies. He was working with an engineering company there.

In 2018, he was jailed there in a case of murder. Meanwhile, on Sunday, around 11 am, his mother N Dhanalakshmi (50) received a call through the Karur Superintendent of Police that Prakash had reportedly committed suicide in the prison itself.

Shocked to hear the information, Dhanalakshmi, who is an agricultural coolie, approached the travel agent through whom Prakash went to Thailand, but they reportedly expressed their inability to help her, but suggested her to approach the District Collector.

On Monday, Dhanalakshmi met Collector T Anbalagan and appealed to him to help her bring back her son’s body. She also expressed suspicion over the death. She told the Collector that he had been lodged in the prison for no fault of him. And the death has confirmed her suspicion and urged the district administration to initiate steps to conduct a fair investigation into his death.
