The otherwise casual event gains importance given the fact that the Tamil actor has made it clear that he wants to play an active role in politics. Kamal, who is arriving in Thiruvananthapuram for a media interview, is scheduled to meet the Chief Minister at his Cliff House residence.

Kamal, who has broken new ground with his role in the reality show, Big Boss (Tamil), has also been active on micro blogging site, Twitter, tweeting on numerous issues, including politics at a time when things are in a state of flux, politically, in the state. His sharp criticisms and comments on corruption in the state led to a volley of retorts from ruling AIADMK ministers. They were also unsparing in questioning his timing, motive, etc. However, Kamal retorted, “I became a politician the moment I raised my voice against Hindi imposition.” On Wednesday, Kamal, while attending the wedding in the family of a fan of his, said it should not be merely seen as a wedding but as the inauguration function of the political entry.

Friday’s meeting with Pinarayi is also a reflection of his common ground with the Left parties. As a rationalist, he was sharply critical of beef ban and said, “ Give people food, not a menu card. If you do not like beef, do not eat it.” Kerala was one state that stood firm against the beef ban.
