CHENNAI: “As a way of honouring and paying gratitude to mother nature for all that it has provided us with, we must ensure the earth and the ecosystem are preserved. We must practice judicial use of electricity and adopt waste recycling for better tomorrow, ”said Minister of Environment and Climate Change V Meyyanathan during the World Gratitude Day celebration at Loyola College on Wednesday.
Indian Science Monitor, a platform that conducts research on notable and relevant scientific data in many cities held a climate action event, on the occasion of the World Gratitude Day.
Speaking at the event, the minister said, “Plastic consumption is one of the serious problems leading to climate change. It needs to be handled at the earliest to avoid environmental and health issues.”
“I strongly urge every member of the public to discuss and brainstorm about current environmental concerns and climate change among their friends and family. It is imperative that we act before it’s too late, hence it is high time for relevant discussions and actions accordingly, ”added the minister.
Speaking about sewage treatment plants and rain water harvesting as some of the measures taken on the account of recycling and conservation, the minister insisted the public to develop an outlook that ‘waste is a wealth’.
“Currently, we can recycle almost everything that we use in everyday life. While also ensuring judicial consumption of electricity, fuel, water and resources. I motivate the public to consider alternate energy sources and waste management as part of everyday life, ”explained minister Meyyanathan.
BC Archana Kalyani, special secretary, Environment, Climate Change and Forest Department, Senthil Kumar, a principal investigator of Union government funded projects and Kannan Pugazhendhi, a sports physician took part in the event. Additionally, Thousand Lights MLA Ezhilan Naganathan also took part in the event and educated students about climate change.
