CHENNAI: Leader of the Opposition and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday stated that it was the opposition party that had thwarted attempts by the ruling party to shield its sympathiser, A Gnanasekar, in connection with the Anna University sexual assault case.

Taking to social media, Palaniswami said that the AIADMK sustained its efforts and campaigns in public forums and on social media to ensure justice for the victim. Our efforts paved the way for life imprisonment that has been awarded to the perpetrator, he said.

The party, he affirmed, would persist in its efforts to secure complete justice, and that is the reason for continuing to ask the question, “Who is that, Sir?” to date.

He reiterated the question, “Who is that ‘Sir' referred to in the FIR. “Why was the 'Sir' ruled out during the investigation, and why is there a hurry in declaring Gnanasekar as the sole accused?” he said, adding that no Sir can save that Sir.
