MADURAI: The information technology sector is playing a phenomenal role in contributing towards achieving the goal of one trillion dollar economy in Tamil Nadu, Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services, T Mano Thangaraj said in Madurai on Saturday after reviewing the progress in the e-Office implementation.
Already the state government of Tamil Nadu has achieved 10 per cent growth in the IT sector and his ministry is devising a new stimulus to further increase its growth by 20 per cent in coming days.
Talking to reporters, he said e-Office, which is a tool of applications for conducting office procedures electronically rolled out on June 30, has created revolutionary change.
On average, as many as 50 lakh files at Secretariat level and one lakh district wise files have been handled by the e-Office, which could be expanded in all regions.
At the Secretariat in Chennai, 3,645 employees of government organizations and over 23,000 employees in various districts were trained adequately to effectively handle e-Office.
But some of them could have their own set of challenges with technology, basic infrastructure or server. To overcome the challenges, meetings were being convened to review the progress in the implementation.
Further, Thangaraj said it’s not merely a review meeting, but a participative learning.
The e-Office concept was aimed at easing work to go paperless and to reduce time consumption and moreover it would allow employees to work ‘anytime anywhere’
The IT Department has made big strides in development, which could be taken to the reach of rural areas as well, the Minister said.
With the aid of ELCOT, Information Technology (IT) companies are coming up in Sholinganallur, Coimbatore and Tiruchy and these facilities would soon be dedicated to job seekers.
