Stating that Isha Foundation had plans to cover Tamil Nadu with around 2.50 crore saplings, the Minister said the organisation planted 2.70 lakh saplings in Vellore district last year and that this year it planned to plant another 2.50 lakh saplings with the help of students of 136 government schools in integrated Vellore district.

Schoolchildren were being chosen for the scheme to inculcate in them the need and importance of growing trees, which in addition to increasing the State’s green cover, would also ensure clean air and good rainfall, the Minister added.

The Minister later handed out saplings to students to plant. Those present at the event included Isha Yoga Vellore district organiser M Venkedasubbu and Vellore Chief Educational Officer S Mars.
