Idol loot bid fails as temple alarm blares

An unidentified person, who attempted to steal a panchaloha idol ran away after the temple alarm started blaring in Ariyalur late on Wednesday night.

TIRUCHY: An unidentified person, who attempted to steal a panchaloha idol ran away after the temple alarm started blaring in Ariyalur late on Wednesday night. Police secured the CCTV footage on Thursday to identify the man. Sources said, several panchaloha idols were kept in the strong room of Pallava-era Sri Alanthuraiyar Temple near Keezha Pazhuvur and the room was secured. On Wednesday night, an unidentified man attempted to break open the strong room. As the temple alarm started blaring, he aborted the bid and fled. Police registered a case and launched a search to nab the culprit.
