Police said Mahesh Kumar, a resident of Lingapuram, was returning home in a two-wheeler after dropping his son at school. The assailants, who followed him in a car, intercepted Kumar’s vehicle near Bagalur around 6.15 am.

Four persons got down the car and assaulted Kumar with sickles, even as bystanders watched the incident helplessly. Kumar died on the spot, while the gang sped away in their car. According to police, Mahesh Kumar had come out of prison on bail after being arrested in connection with a murder case in Bengaluru. He was also involved in a few other assault cases. Police suspect that he was killed in a revenge attack by a rival gang.
