A division bench of Justices M.Venugopal and Abdul Quddhose reserved the orders on a PIL filed by one B.Karthee of Andalpuram.

The petitioner contended that for several years the trains were operated with six general compartments and they had been reduced to four and the poor passengers had been hit hard during the festival seasons.

Counsel for the railways said that only one coach had been converted into pantry car.

Out of the four general compartments, two were reserved for women and physically challenged people.

The difference in fare between the reserved and general compartments was only 15, he said.
