COIMBATORE: A 48-year-old farmer shot himself dead with a country-made gun following a quarrel with his wife in Gudalur.

An argument broke out between Kutty Krishnan (48), of Sri Madurai Panchayat in Gudalur, and his wife Manju (44) two days ago.

According to the police, Manju left for her relative's house and refused to return even when Krishnan visited her. Depressed over this, he shot himself dead on Tuesday night, they said.

As the doors remained shut for a long time on Wednesday, the neighbours went into the house and were shocked to find Krishnan lying dead in a pool of blood.

The Gudalur police rushed to the spot and sent the body of the deceased for a post-mortem at Ooty GH. A case has been registered, and a probe is under way.
