Follow Madras High Court order on veterinary jobs: Associations

The association said these lapses have resulted in prolonged litigation, the denial of opportunities to eligible candidates, and the erosion of confidence in the recruitment process.

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Veterinary Graduates Federation (TNVGF) has urged Chief Minister MK Stalin to ensure implementation of the Madras High Court's verdicts on the recruitment of Veterinary Assistant Surgeons (VAS) in the Animal Husbandry department, alleging continued statutory violations by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC).

In a representation submitted to the Chief Minister, the federation flagged what it termed persistent deviations from established reservation norms and non-compliance with binding judicial directions in successive VAS recruitment exercises.

The association said these lapses have resulted in prolonged litigation, the denial of opportunities to eligible candidates, and the erosion of confidence in the recruitment process.

Citing a batch of writ petitions, TNVGF said the Madras High Court had categorically held that reservation for women is horizontal and cannot override vertical reservation.

The court had directed TNPSC to issue revised selection lists with all consequential benefits after correcting errors in the application of reservation rules. "Despite the lapse of more than a year, the directions remain unimplemented," Dr M Balaji, coordinator of the Federation, said, calling it a wilful disregard of judicial authority.

He also raised concern over the termination of 254 Veterinary Assistant Surgeons appointed under Rule 10 (a) (i), many of whom had rendered over a decade of continuous service. He said their disengagement, attributed to non-selection in recent recruitments, was arbitrary and a direct consequence of policy inaction.

According to him, the removals have weakened veterinary public services across the State, affecting animal health care, rural livelihoods and farmers' welfare.

"TNVGF seeks immediate compliance with court orders, issuance of revised selection lists, and re-induction of experienced veterinarians with continuity of service and wages," coordinator Dr M Balaji said.

He urged the government to take a compassionate, policy-driven decision to restore fairness, uphold constitutional principles and ensure uninterrupted veterinary services in the larger public interest.
