‘Fishermen arrests by SL Navy come down in 2018,19’ 

Thanks to the proactive steps taken by the state government, the number of fishermen and fishing boats apprehended by the Sri Lankan Navy in the Palk Bay has come down during 2018 and 2019, Governor Banwarilal Purohit told the state Assembly on Monday.

Delivering his customary New Year address to the House, he said as of now, only 17 fishermen continue to be in Sri Lankan custody and efforts were being taken to release them at the earliest. The Governor also reiterated the state government’s demand for Central intervention to have this issue amicably resolved at the earliest.
