Fans upset over Murasoli articles on MGR, Jaya

Die-hard fans of MGR are upset with the DMK party organ Murasoli for frequently bringing out alleged substandard articles targeting the image of AIADMK leaders MGR and J Jayalalithaa.

The last two columns published in the party organ under “Murasoli — some memories” speaks about the ailing MGR and mentions that MGR was not in a sound mind due to his renal transplant and took several deteriorating measures affecting the state administration.

“As on date I am not in AIADMK, but the DMK party organ has gone to a low level targeting the AIADMK founder. For MGR fans like me such articles are an eyesore,” said Karate R Thiagarajan former deputy mayor of Chennai Corporation.

“I have spoken to fisheries minister D Jayakumar to take up this issue with the DMK. MGR also worked for the development of DMK,” Thiagarajan said. For the past month, the DMK mouthpiece has been tarnishing the image of AIADMK leaders, but the AIADMK functionaries are silent over the issue, he added.

“Targeting MGR will harm the DMK’s vote bank and the former chief minister is always an evergreen icon in Dravidian politics and is image will continue to be a colossus,” said MGR fan and former AIADMK MP KC Palaniswami.

The general culture practised in Tamil Nadu is not to criticise or demean those who are dead. AIADMK cadres have stopped commenting about Kalaignar Karunanidhi after his demise.

“DMK leader MK Stalin campaigns that he will bring out the mystery related to former CM Jayalalithaa’s death, but the party organ is carrying misleading articles about Amma. This behaviour is self-contradictory. DMK mouthpiece should stop carrying such derogatory articles,” Palaniswami said.

If they continue to target the image of MGR, AIADMK cadres will retaliate, the ousted AIADMK leader said.

When contacted a senior DMK leader on the issue, he said that the AIADMK and AMMK party organs like Namadhu Amma and Namadhu MGR have dedicated space to target the DMK leader Kalaignar and his family.

They have carried several defamatory articles about the DMK and the DMK first family. Further whatever has been published in Murasoli is just a recall of what happened during the days of MGR and Jayalalithaa when they were acting together, the DMK leader said wishing not to be quoted.
