CHENNAI: Three members of a family ended their lives by consuming poison in Erode over health issues on Sunday. Police identified the deceased as Nagendran (50), a goldsmith from Pon Nagar in Modakurichi, his wife Sasikala (42) and daughter Dhanyalakshmi (20).
Police said Nagendran suffered from mouth cancer, while Sasikala had thyroid dysfunction, and their daughter was mentally unstable. Depressed, the couple decided to end their lives after giving poison to their daughter. Before taking the extreme step, Nagendran shared a suicide note to his relatives and friends past midnight.
The relatives who were shocked to see the suicide note on Sunday morning had immediately rushed to their house and found the trio lying dead, police said.
On receiving information, the Modakurichi police rushed to the spot and sent the bodies of the deceased for a post-mortem at Erode Government Hospital. A case has been registered, and further inquiries are on.
