CHENNAI: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has strongly condemned the State government over the arrest of nurses protesting for their demands at Kilambakkam.

“The manner in which they were treated exposes that the DMK is anti-worker,” he said. “The State government has failed to honour its electoral promises, especially ‘Promise No 356’ made during the 2021 elections, along with other long-pending demands of the nursing community.”

Highlighting that the nurses were demanding the reinstatement of those appointed during the COVID-19 pandemic under the previous regime, he added that “this government cannot escape the responsibility for betraying frontline healthcare workers who served the state during its most difficult period”, and urged the government to fulfil the nurses’ demands without any further delay.
