Emu scam: 3 get 10-yr jail term

A special court in Coimbatore on Monday awarded 10-year imprisonment to three persons in connection with the multi-crore emu scam.

J Padmanaban, 40, S Jayakumar, 39 and D Rajasekaran, 38, the three directors of JPR Emu Agrifarms India Pvt Ltd had cheated as many as 78 investors of Rs 1.67 crore. Judge AS Ravi sentenced the three directors to 10 years of imprisonment and imposed a penalty of Rs 56 lakh. Only Padmanaban and Rajasekar appeared and were lodged in prison. A search warrant has been issued against Jayakumar.
