CHENNAI: The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Monday alleged that the BJP-led Union government was using central agencies to threaten actor-politician Vijay, marking the first time the DMK has openly come out in support of him.

Addressing the media at Hosur, DMK spokesperson and former MP TKS Elangovan said the Union government was misusing agencies such as the CBI and the ED to intimidate political opponents.

Referring to Vijay’s summons by the CBI in Delhi, Elangovan alleged that the move was politically motivated. He claimed that the BJP was attempting to pressure Vijay into aligning with the BJP led NDA. Supporting Vijay’s film Jana Nayagan, the DMK leader said the censor certificate for the movie was delayed without valid reasons.

The unnecessary delay in issuing the censor certificate shows the BJP’s intention to exert pressure. They want Vijay to come into their alliance,” he alleged

“The BJP functions like a washing machine. When corrupt individuals join the party, they become clean,” he said. This is one of the rare occasions when a DMK leader has come in support of TVK president actor Vijay, directly or indirectly. Earlier, Chief Minister and DMK leader MK Stalin shared a social media post on Jana Nayagan’s CBFC issue, claiming that the censor board had joined the long list of agencies under the BJP-led Centre to threaten politicians on the other side.
