As Chengam town borders forest areas, it is common for deer and wild boars to stray into human habitation in search of food and water. During one such incident on Thursday night, a deer, which ventured into Melkariyamangalam village, was allegedly shot thrice by miscreants with a country gun resulting in the instant death of the animal.

On Friday morning, locals, who spotted the deer lying dead, alerted the forest department personnel who took away the carcass for a post-mortem. Sources revealed many use country bombs and guns to hunt down animals and the deer’s death was one such case.
