Declare Nanguneri vacant: Chief Electoral Officer

After the newly elected Kanniyakumari MP H Vasantha Kumar submitted his resignation, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sathyabrata Sahoo on Friday sent a letter to Election Commission (EC) asking the parent body to declare Nanguneri as a vacant constituency.

Nanguneri constituency fell vacant following the MLA of the constituency Vasantha Kumar winning in the recently conducted Lok Sabha elections. Vasantha Kumar was elected as MLA of Nanguneri constituency twice, once in 2011 and for the second time in 2016, but however he was given the Kanniyakumari Lok Sabha seat by Congress which he won. Following that he submitted his resignation on Wednesday to Speaker P Dhanapal and his resignation was accepted immediately. Officials at CEO office said that the EC will declare the seat vacant soon.
