CHENNAI: Several districts of Tamil Nadu are likely to receive heavy rain for the next two days as cyclonic storm Hamoon is expected to further intensify a very severe cyclone.
The meteorological centre has issued a yellow warning for six districts of TN and some areas in north and southern parts might get light to moderate rain in the coming days.
Cyclonic storm Hamoon intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm over northwest Bay of Bengal on Tuesday.
It is very likely to maintain its intensity of very severe cyclonic storm for a few hours. It is expected to weaken gradually while moving northeast wards and cross Bangladesh coast between Khepupara and Chittagong on October 25 (Wednesday) as a cyclonic storm with wind speed of 65 kmph to 75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph.
Additionally, a cyclonic circulation lies over southwest Bay of Bengal off coastal Andhra Pradesh between 1.5 km and 3.1 km above mean sea level. Under the influence of the system formed over the sea, Theni, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts of Tamil Nadu are likely to receive heavy rain along with thunderstorms and lightning for the next 48 hours.
Some areas in north and south parts of the state might get light to moderate rain till October 31, as per RMC bulletin.
The weather officials urged the fishermen in the deep sea to return to the coast and not to venture into the sea for the next 24 hours. Gale wind speed reaching 115 kmph to 125 kmph gusting to 135 kmph is prevailing.
It is likely to become 120 kmph to 130 kmph gusting 140 kmph and decrease gradually by Wednesday.
In the last 24 hours, Virudhunagar district recorded the highest amount of rainfall with 10 cm.
Followed by Tenkasi and Kanyakumari 6 cm each, Coimbatore, Theni and Sivaganga received 2-3 cm rainfall each.
