Cop suspended for drunk driving

A constable was on Tuesday suspended by the Salem Superintendent of Police for allegedly driving the police jeep in an inebriated condition and causing mishap.

According to the police, constable Balaji, who had been deputed to drive the jeep of AWPS Inspector Amsavalli, dropped her off at her house and later consumed liquor.

Driving recklessly, he crashed the vehicle into a building. Doctors at the hospital where Balaji was admitted with injuries confirmed that he was drunk. Based on a complaint, the Asthampatti police registered a case and a departmental inquiry was conducted. Following this, Salem SP Deepa Ganiger placed the cop under suspension.
