Cop dies of Covid-19 in Madurai

The deceased cop has been identified as Special Sub-Inspector Pandi attached to Checkanurani Police station near Usilampatti in Madurai district.

This is reported to be the first COVID-19 death of a police officer in Madurai district.

The 51-year-old was under treatment at Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai since June 27.

According to statistics from Indian Police Foundation, Tamil Nadu police ranks second in the list of police departments with the most number of COVID cases after Maharashtra. While TN has 3000 cases in total, Maharashtra has more than 6,400 personnel who have tested positive.

So far, as many as 150 police personnel have died across the country due to the pandemic and 5 of them are from Tamil Nadu, showed the data from Indian Police Foundation.
